Making things is my passion!

I love to solve problems and build solutions.

"Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans." I remember this quote from a John Lennon song. I like it because it reminds me that sometimes things happen and life doesn't turn out like you plan. The best you can do is make the best of it and work through it.

Welcome to my personal site!

This is my personal site. It was set up to demonstrate skills I acquired while becoming a full stack web developer. I built the site for companies and recruiters to see the skills I gained learning web development in the ASP.NET framework. I hope my family and friends will simply enjoy the content and test some of the functionality.

Feel free to click around and take a look at what I have built. I have included several self-study lab projects and links to bigger projects, like my uStore.

I have a page with links to my classmates' personal sites. It was interesting to see everyone's personality shine through as we learned together.

I also added a link to my pet project, my very first web development. It was a little rough, but we all have to start somewhere. It contains more pictures of things I made. I included it here to keep from adding the pictures separately to this site.

What a year...

This past year has brought changes I never anticipated. Tomorrow, I start a new journey as an employee of Associated Wholesale Grocers. It's that much closer to the return of my son from the military, as well. Here's to new beginnings!

Finally here!

I devoted more time to the uStore than the other projects, and then time for the final project arrived. It's hard to believe how much I have learned, even though I realize we only scratched the surface.

Building the skills

I've been working on additional projects to fine-tune my skills while learning additional design patterns in class. My uStore project is now MVC and has a functional contact page.
Adding the data portion was very satisfying.
I have a couple other projects I'm working on, but I'm not quite ready to add the links to them.

It's about to get complicated

I'm getting ready to tackle adding Identity and Data to the MVC version of my uStore. The application is becoming more and more complicated.

I added a countdown that's personal to me... the number of days until my son comes home!

Now you can reach me!

I converted my site to MVC, added a link to my uStore, and activated the Contact Form! You can now go to the Contact Me section and send me an email!

That was painful!

I finally got my jQuery UI widgets working in the MVC version of my personal site. I've probably learned a lot more from the difficulties than I realize. Now to get more progress on the uStore project!

Slowly building my skills

We started learning about MVC. I'm really excited about the progress I'm making on my uStore site as well.

Getting there

I applied some JavaScript to make my personal site more flexible and friendly to mobile devices.

Am I ready for this?

I attended a mock interview technical bootcamp today. I got really excited talking about how much I love working with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and how quickly I can see progress on coding projects. Then I got choked up when that passion for coding was pointed out to me. Literally had tears in my eyes.

It begins...

I began full stack web development training at Centriq today. I hope this mainframe COBOL programmer can learn a new trick or two.
